Broomfield Senior Services
The City and County of Broomfield's Senior Services division serves residents 60 and older, mainly from the Broomfield Community Center at 280 Spader Way. Its offerings include lunches, trips, recreation and social activities, and several programs that are directly useful when you are planning for safer bathing.
Loan Closet
Free short-term loans of adaptive equipment such as walkers, wheelchairs, knee scooters, canes and reachers, first come, first served at the Community Center front desk. Helpful during a recovery while a permanent bathroom change is planned.
Community Resources Coordinator
Helps older adults and caregivers explore legal, financial, housing, long-term care and mental health resources, with information and referrals.
Support groups
Free groups at the Community Center, including dementia caregivers, Parkinson's and Parkinson's care partners, low vision and grief.
Senior Resources Guide
A seasonal guide, available as a PDF or in print at the front desk, listing city programs and outside agencies for housing, in-home help, nutrition and legal aid.
Broomfield also lists income-based financial assistance, in partnership with Senior Resources of Broomfield, for needs such as dentures, hearing aids and glasses. It is not a bathroom program, but it is a reminder to ask what is available.
Recovery first, remodel second
A common situation: someone comes home after a hospital stay or surgery, and suddenly the bathroom is the hardest room in the house. In that moment, borrowing equipment and adding temporary aids buys time to choose a permanent solution calmly.
- Short term: a shower chair or tub transfer bench, a handheld shower, non-slip mats and a night light. Ask the hospital's discharge team or therapist what they recommend.
- Borrow what you can: Broomfield's Loan Closet lends mobility equipment free for a limited time.
- Medium term: grab bars, properly anchored.
- Permanent: once you know how recovery is going, choose a walk-in tub, walk-in shower or roll-in shower. Our comparison guide helps.
Broomfield homes
Broomfield includes older neighborhoods in the original town and many newer developments to the north and around the Interlocken and Anthem areas. Older homes often have a hall bath with a standard tub alcove; newer homes frequently have two stories and an upstairs primary bath, and some newer communities are built for active adults with main-floor primary suites. A main-floor primary bath is the ideal spot for a walk-in tub or curbless shower.

Questions to bring to the Community Resources Coordinator
Broomfield's Community Resources Coordinator can point you to programs, but you will get more out of the conversation with specific questions:
- Are there home repair or modification programs available to Broomfield residents with my income?
- Does anything in the Senior Resources Guide help with the cost of grab bars or a shower conversion?
- Is in-home help available while I recover, such as help with bathing or housekeeping?
- Who can do a home safety evaluation, and is there a cost?
- Are there transportation options for therapy appointments?
Main-floor primary suites: what to choose
If your home has its primary bedroom and bath on the main floor, you already have the most important ingredient for aging in place. In those bathrooms we usually talk through three layouts:
Keep a tub, make it walk-in
Replace a standard or garden tub with a walk-in tub, and keep the separate shower for anyone who prefers it.
Shower-only suite
Remove the tub and enlarge the shower into a low-threshold or curbless space with a bench and handheld shower.
Ready for a wheelchair
A roll-in shower with enough clear floor for a wheelchair to turn, plus grab bars by the toilet.
Whichever you choose, anchor grab bars properly and pick an anti-scald valve. Our features guide explains what to look for in each.
If you are not sure where to start, the Broomfield Community Center front desk is a practical first stop: you can pick up the Senior Resources Guide, ask about the Loan Closet, and ask to speak with the Community Resources Coordinator in a single visit.
Aging Safely Baths & More is based in Denver and installs in Broomfield. We have installed walk-in tubs and roll-in showers since 2012, and most installs are completed in one day.
